GUYS ONLY-what are signs that a guy is trying to get rid of a hard on?

I was making out with a guy last night and we would kiss for a while then stop and when we stopped he would be breathing would be shakey and heavy...was he trying too get rid of a hard on? (oh and if i helps im pretty sure he had one later on because i felt it against me) if not what was going on?
